新“醉拳”无招胜有招
Plus: Action-packed scenes, fast tempo - you basically can't take your eyes off too long for any particular moment cos if you do, you'll more or less miss something.
Minus: Dry and predictable plot. It was evident that Yuen Woo-ping, being a Chinese martial arts choreographer, was placing more emphasis on the attacking moves rather than focusing on a strong story, to captivate audiences' eyes rather than heart.
Best acting performance: Zhou Xun, by a mile.
Remarks: Jay Zhou's appearance and his character was more of a miss than hit. The intention was purposeful but the portrayal let it down. Brought out a few laughters though.
Grading: 6.8/ 10 (2.8 for plot, 4 for screenplay)
Overall verdict: Not for the faint hearted. Those who love fights and combats will enjoy this. Those hoping to watch a 'story' unfold would've been left disappointed.
