The movie came out almost 2 wks ago but cos of my schedule, haven't been able to catch it. Being a 三国 fan, it goes without saying that I won't be giving it a miss, even though I must admit my disappointment with director John Woo's approach to the film.
Based on the reviews I've read so far, seems like its pretty far fetch from the 'real thing'. Xiao Qiao's role was very much modified and enjoyed a lot of the emphasize. Guess it's far to say that we real fans out there would prefer the focus to be on the story and truth. While some critics pointed out to the need for Woo to tweak his approach in accordance to pushing the film towards the Europeans and Hollywood market, I don't think that's something right for a historical film. The Battle of Chibi was one of the catch of Romance of the Three Kingdoms but what's been protrayed and delivered to viewers is inaccurate and esp. misleading to those new to the story. There's a China drama serialisation of RTK which is ongoing and started fliming towards the end of last yr so I'd be reserving my expectations for that.
